How it all began!

Farewell

It was cold and dark that December night in Veenoord, a small village in southeast Drenthe. The headlights of the Schiphol taxi mercilessly shone through the curtains into the living room. There was no escape, that was the farewell.

On December 28, 2004 we emigrated for the second time to Curaçao. This time with two little children, which made the farewell even harder.

The beginning

In 1990 I first set foot on Curaçao, not yet knowing that it would become my second homeland.

Before coming to Curaçao, I worked as a teacher at Randstad Training Center in Rotterdam. I taught various computer applications and also served as a hostess. Here I discovered that I am a 'people-person'. My passion is to give people a good time. Additionally, it was a big dream for me to broaden my horizons beyond the borders of the Netherlands.

It was not easy to leave family and friends behind. And this happened twice!

Once on Curaçao, I quickly became hooked on the underwater world. Seven beautiful diving years followed and one of the treasures I have discovered is my current husband!

Intermezzo

At the beginning of this century we went back to the Netherlands together. We spent 2.5 years in Brabant, where our son's sister was born. Blood, however, creeps where it cannot go. Curaçao kept pulling and we decided to take the step again, now with all four of us.

A place under the sun

In the meantime we are a generation further and I run the oldest existing B&Bs on the island. Since 2007 I have been welcoming guests with great pleasure and making them familiar with our 'dushi Kòrsou'.

Our children grew up in and with the B&B. Although in the early phase it was sometimes a challenge to divide attention between guests and children, they could also help me from time to time with the daily running and sailing of the B&B as they grew older.

Home is a feeling

And now after many years we are left behind because our children go to study in the Netherlands. With one foot in the Netherlands and the other on Curaçao, the split is sometimes quite painful. Fortunately the world has become a lot smaller thanks to technological progress and the Netherlands often feels very close. We have been able to unite our love for both countries in our B&B. The tropical atmosphere of a South American hacienda meets Dutch coziness here.

It feels good to share my love for Curaçao with my guests. It's as if you constantly rediscover the island through their eyes. And there is much to discover. Curaçao offers so much more than sun, sea and beach. The rich history, culture, architecture and people make you never run out of things to see, talk about and learn.
