This lighthouse also appears on the cover of the book "Eenzaam" by Boudewijn Büch. The first lighthouse was built in 1850. It was destroyed on September 23, 1877, by the most powerful hurricane ever to hit the Leeward Islands. Fortunately, we are outside the hurricane zone, and they usually pass us by. Due to the importance of the lighthouse, a new one was immediately constructed. The lighthouse that is still in use today stands slightly further towards the center of the island. From the top of the lighthouse, you have a beautiful view of the island and the surrounding waters. Remains of boats that have wrecked on the north side can be found there, highlighting the significance of the lighthouse.
