The Lighthouse
In addition to natural beauty, Klein Curaçao also has historical value. The lighthouse, located on the island, is very special. This lighthouse also appears on the cover of the book Lonely by Boudewijn Büch. The first lighthouse was built in 1850. It was destroyed on 23 September 1877 by the most powerful hurricane that ever hit the leeward islands. Fortunately we are outside the hurricane zone and they usually pass us by. Due to the importance of the lighthouse, a new one was built immediately. The lighthouse, which is still in use today, is located slightly more in the middle of the island. From the top of the lighthouse you have a beautiful view over the island and surrounding waters. Remains of boats that have wrecked on the north side can be found on the north side and show how important the lighthouse is.
